Fred has presented at numerous early childhood conferences across Canada. His keynote addresses are inspiring and entertaining. Fred comes from Mennonite background with a strong morality and belief in the value of music and the arts for children…indeed for all.
He grew up in Winnipeg and through his work in child care centres (Knowles School for Boys, Childrens Home of Winnipeg) Fred gained a deep personal awareness of the emotional, behavioral and physical challenges these children faced. Music became a critical point of contact.
His Down Syndrome sister was also a great inspiration to him.
His presentations are musical and autobiographical and are focused around the question of How Are The Children? His songs and stories touch on the following:
- needs and feelings
- emotions – positive and negative – discovering empathy
- words and numbers – patterns
- health and well being – identity
- imagination and exploration
Fred’s career as a musician and television personality has endeared him in the hearts of a generation.
